Small Cars in India - Figo and ‘Beat’ing the Competition



India car marked is flooded with cars of all types and sizes. Small cars have increasingly become popular. All major carmakers are rolling out small cars. Ford Figo and Chevrolet Beat are two small cars which have earned a good name. The two cars small hatchbacks are still new to Indian car market. Both are powered by petrol and priced between Rs 3.4 and 4.4 Lakh Ex-showroom approximately. Here’s is a comparison of both the cars.

Figo and Beat both sport elegant exterior styling. Chevrolet Beat looks more attractive and the Figo has a modern look. The front part of both cars is equally striking. The Beat’s side looks are modern and smooth. Its curves are done well really and door handle design is appealing in the small car category. The Figo is longer and wider car and the Chevrolet Beat is a compact and taller car.

When it comes to interiors, Ford Figo is roomier than the Beat because it is wider. The passengers at the rear feel comfort even if they are three. The Beat’s interior features a dual tone touch in fabric and dashboard. However, the quality of plastic used in the car leaves a lot to be desired. There are no power windows even its top end model. The Chevrolet Beat is a bit congested for five passengers but the quality of substances is impressive throughout the interior and the top end model is equipped with power windows.

Coming to dimensions, the Beat’s length is 3595mm and width = 1595mm. The length of Ford Figo is 3795mm and width = 1680mm. The Figo is longer and wider than the Beat.

The Ford Figo is powered by a 4-cylinder water cooled 1196 CC MPFI engine rated at 71 BHP @ 6250 rpm and a torque of 102 Nm @ 4000 rpm. It is connected to a five-speed manual transmission. The Beat has a new Generation S-TEC II 1196 CC / 4 Cylinder / 16 Valve DOHC engine. The engine produces a maximum power output of 80.5 BHP and 108 Nm Torque @ 4400 rpm and is teamed with a five-speed manual gear box.

There is not a big difference in the price of these two cars. But if one goes by the quality of the interior, one can choose the Beat over Figo. Both brands offer good after sales service.
